Each freeze barrel has a thermistor clipped to the bottom of the evaporator outlet copper refrigeration tube and is insulated. The thermistor low limit is -30F and the high limit is +115F. If either of the limits is observed for 30 continuous seconds, the barrel temp out message is displayed. The most probable cause is a bad sensor that is dead shorted or an open circuit.
You can test by placing the thermistor into a cup of ice water and look for ~32°F. Rub it between your hands and should read ~90°F.
